How it’s made
Four steps
Every piece is made here: the shell in our workshop, the pouch in my mum’s hands, the assembly on our own bench.
01
The shell grows in layers
Carbon-fibre filament, laid down layer after layer. The surface is not polished: you can see and feel the print lines, and that is how it should be. The slight shifts of colour from one spot to the next are a normal part of this printing process too: they are what make every piece unique.
02
The letters stay
Six tenths of a millimetre: about the height of a Braille dot. The eye barely registers it, but under a fingertip the name of the colour is there at once, without looking. Enough to read it with your fingers, little enough never to catch.
03
The pouch is stitched by hand
Faux leather cut and stitched one piece at a time. The magnets are set into the top edge, lined up with those in the shell. The lining inside is printed with the brand.
04
Assembly, and the click
Copper medallion, studs, hooks. Then the test that counts: the pouch goes into the shell and makes its sound. If the sound is not right, the piece does not ship.
Why 3D printing
Carbon-fibre filament was made for precision components. It is untroubled by heat, cold or time: it does not warp and it does not fade.
Printing also lets us do something no mould would allow: make an identical component again years later. That is why every bag can be looked after for years.
